Students attaining the necessary progression standard after the second semester proceed to a substantial project in semester three that permits them to exercise further the knowledge and skills they have gained during the taught component of the course. The project also allows them to investigate more deeply an area of Computing they have found particularly interesting or which they feel is particularly relevant to their career aspirations. Those students not progressing to the project are, if qualified, offered the Postgraduate Diploma in Computing or Postgraduate Certificate if they fail more than 2 taught modules.
You have the option to finish your studies at the end of semester 2 and not undertake the project. This restricts the total possible credit accumulation to 120 and such a path will lead to the award of PGDip rather than MSc.
| CORE MODULES* | ADVANCED OPTIONS* |
|---|---|
*Modules and Options may change at short notice
Each option builds on the foundation material, and has been designed to complement at least one of the others. Students may thus, if they wish, choose a pair which relate to a particular career path.
FOR EXAMPLE:
- Software Engineer - software engineering, database systems
- Systems Engineer - software engineering, data fusion
- Games Programmer - Artificial Intelligence For Games, Digital Image Processing, Computer Graphics
MSc students then proceed to a three-month individual project, which extends their understanding of the material in the taught part of the course.
GROUP PROJECT/ DISSERTATION
The course also contains a group project and a dissertation project.
The Group Project module involves assessment both of team-working and individual skills and understanding. The dissertation is an individual piece of work.
