PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND REQUIREMENTS, LEVELS, MODULES, CREDITS, AND AWARDS

The course comprises a diet of core and optional modules. The course fits into the pattern of postgraduate provision and makes use of a significant number of previously approved modules currently being delivered to postgraduate students.

The relevance of the course content to the stated teaching aims and objectives will be based on existing core computer science and networking topics as well as quantitative analysis techniques, such as queuing theory and networks, simulation, and their applications into the performability modelling and evaluation of computing and networking systems.

The content of the performance engineering related modules is based on the latest research work in the field, and in particular, recent research carried out by the Networking and Performance Engineering Group, Department of Computing, School of Informatics. Students will have opportunity to enhance Personal Transferable skills principally through participation in project work.

The curriculum is designed to establish a firm basis of knowledge and understanding, which students from different academic backgrounds and undergraduate experience can build. The second semester continues this process whilst enabling students to choose an option which reflects a specialist interest in the field. The final semester allows the opportunity to develop in the form of sustained major project work, advanced knowledge and understanding of Performance Engineering.
