Business organisations today increasingly depend on effective information systems, which in turn increasingly depend on computer systems. This course combines fundamental computing principles from the Computer Science course with modules which place more emphasis on the design of systems in a commercial and/or industrial environment. There is therefore less emphasis on the hardware aspects of computer systems.

The course emphasises the analysis and design of information systems in organisations, and considers the possible gains to be made by using computers to support these activities.

You will learn the techniques required to define and develop effective information systems to overcome the problems which commonly occur in a business setting. You will also consider the effects that introducing computers into the workplace may have on individuals and issues concerned with the management of change.

It is possible to do the course either as a three-year course, or as a four-year sandwich course which includes an industry placement.
