LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning outcomes indicate what you should know, understand, and be able to do on successful completion of your course. Computing is a subject where current practices in the field are changing rapidly as technologies evolve and new programming languages emerge. However, the underlying theory and principles remain constant. In the BSc Mobile Computing, you will study both the fundamentals and how to apply them to the analysis of problems, as well as about new technologies and languages, and how to plan, implement and evaluate them to achieve computing solutions. In order to achieve the learning outcomes you will develop:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts and theories of computer science, including a detailed knowledge of hardware, computer architecture, information and communication technologies. You will be taught the mathematical foundations of computing, and how they underpin the formal specification and design of mobile applications. You also will gain specific knowledge of networks and computer communications, and the ability to comment on aspects of current research in the discipline.
  • Discipline Specific Skills including how to analyse problems and develop solutions using leading-edge ideas and techniques. You will create computer programs using object-oriented programming languages appropriate for specific applications. You also will learn to manage and/or contribute to a team approach to software engineering projects, as well as develop the ability to read and make use of research articles in journals and research literature, and the competence to use major software application packages.
  • Personal and Transferable Skills you will be taught include the exercise of initiative in information management, interpretation and presentation, the ability to make decisions in a variety of contexts, the application of information technology and communications (ICT) skills to management problems, report-writing and presentation, creative and systematic problem-solving, teamwork and leadership, and project and personal management.
