COURSE INTRODUCTION

As our daily lives become more dependent on computer systems, it becomes vital that such systems are error-free and totally reliable. This is particularly important when computers are used in safety-critical situations such as hospitals, or controlling aircraft or industrial plant.

This course will prepare you for challenging problems in industry and commerce concerned with software development and reliability. You will receive a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of computer science, and training in current best practice in the principles and methods for software engineering. You will be encouraged to develop an all-embracing concern for software reliability, correctness, safety and cost; such concern being the hallmark of a professional software engineer.
