The Department of Computing at the University of Bradford has been established for over 40 years and is one of the leading pioneers of computing studies in UK higher education. We've seen many changes since the ‘60s, but we've always been at the cutting edge of computing research and teaching, with world-class facilities, learning materials and student support.
We offer a range of exciting full-time degree programmes and presently host seven British Computer Society
(BCS) accredited computing courses, a range of flexible ICT, maths and other computer related degree courses, all with different areas of specialisation to cater for your varied interests and aspirations.
The Department of Computing has a strong relationship with the British Computer Society. BCS is the leading UK professional body for computing and information systems, setting quality standards, developing skills and informing and influencing the national agenda for Information Technology. All of our accredited courses display the BCS logo.
Today as part of the School of Informatics we are proud to continue that tradition of innovation. We are continually updating our courses and have added a number of degree programmes in the last few years.
All of our BSc and BEng degree programmes are full-time and available either as three-year continuous courses or four-year sandwich courses, with a year in paid employment in an industrial placement between the second and final years.
We've produced many successful graduates from the Department of Computing. In the last few years our graduates have joined companies such as Microsoft, IBM and Apple, working in Britain, Europe and the rest of the world as software developers, IT consultants, systems analysts, Web designers, and network administrators. Our courses ensure that you can gain the sort of experience that employers are looking for. Public service, accountancy, risk analysis and teaching are just a few of the other careers that you can enter with one of our degrees. We design our courses to enable you to develop a diversity of skills and knowledge that you can apply in a wide range of employment sectors, so don't feel that you have to be confined to the computing field.
Our internationally recognised research provides a solid basis for our innovative teaching and up-to-date course material. We are world renowned for being visionary and successfully recognising future trends in computing and related fields. Our lecturers have a wide spectrum of skills and expertise, from software engineering to mobile communications, from computer forensics and security to robotics and artificial intelligence. We have at our disposal five superbly equipped computer labs with wireless networks and the latest desktop computers, which are replaced and updated every three years. Because we are so well equipped, you'll have no problems getting the use of a computer when you need one, so don't worry if you don't have your own machine. Our network also means that you can use any computer, even your laptop, to do your work here.
If you would like to visit us, we have a number of open days throughout the academic year. You can visit the Department on these days and discuss course details with a member of staff. Details of open day dates are available under 'Open Days' on the left and details on how to find us are available under the 'Find us' link on the left.
